My Background
I have been a self-employed Accounting and Computer
Consultant for 17 years. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree
in Accounting and 32 years of experience, including 8 years as an
Assistant Controller for a nationwide electronics firm.
Some of my accomplishments in accounting are:
- Single-handedly updating tremendous general ledger backlogs.
- Conversions from manual G/L systems to computerized G/L systems.
- Automation of journal entries and subsidiary ledgers utilizing Lotus, Excel,
Access and dBase.
- Secured quick multi-million dollar federal tax refunds two
years in succession.
- Instituted various budgets and cost cutting measures during lean periods.
- Worked in manual and automated environments and organized the work flow in both.
- Computerized the accounting functions of many of my clients utilizing Quickbooks software.
My accomplishments in the computer field are:
- Network supervisor for 6 of my clients, setting up the network for all of them.
- Programming a mortgage tracking program for a regional mortgage broker utilizing Clipper Database software.
- Programmed an appraisal tracking database for a regional appraisal office utilizing Microsoft Access 97.
- Programmed an inventory tracking database for a national distribution firm utilizing Microsoft Access 97.
- Proficient in DOS, Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP as well as Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, Quicken and various other software packages.
- Proficient in PC operations, maintenance, repair and diagnostics.
Employment prior to becoming a Self-employed Consultant:
Assistant Controller. Semispecialists of America, Inc., Melville, New York (June 1983 to February 1991).
Electronic distribution firm with sales totaling a high of $90 million. Responsibilities included supervising a staff of three, analysis and control of the general ledger system leading to preparation of monthly and yearly consolidated financial statements; prepared all payroll tax returns, sales tax returns, and corporate income tax returns; bank reconciliations, daily cash management, and reconciliation and control of the computerized accounts payable and receivable systems. Special projects included computerizing most accounting functions utilizing Lotus 1-2-3 and dBase III+ on the PC, creating a computerized general ledger system on the IBM system 34 and 36, and coordinating the yearly audits with the company's outside accounting firm.
